Alert: This is a long post! I also didnt think it was right to fill it with loads of images, but its full of useful information about big brands and the smaller companies they own!

When researching nigh the big brands which we have all heard of (Maybelline/Max Gene etc) I started to notice that a lot of them were owned by the same companies and then I decided to take a look at the larger companies; the beneath ii brand maps shows which large companies own which brands and is what I based this enquiry on;

FoodMap

Map i;http://www.foodista.com/weblog/2013/04/02/a-food-convergence-map-y'all-wished-you-never-saw

Map ii;http://popular-online.com/retail-food-brand-map/

Just from a brand signal of view I was surprised at the amount of well known brands each of these companies own!! From hither I checked which big brands test their products, cosmetics, household and toiletries as well equally food so I could encounter which products I needed to steer clear of. This is merely on the research I have washed;

The below companies all state that though they do not test on animals themselves, they commission or allow testing to happen on their products so that they can be sold in countries such as China where animal testing is required by law.

Note: I have listed all the sub-brands I could observe for both the United kingdom, US and all other brands where applicable. I take also highlighted the ones which I recognise, still if I have missed any, misspelt them or missed any brands off my list please forgive me, I am going off of the websites stated below.

Unilever

Unilever Statement;

Unilever is committed to the emptying of animate being testing. We are equally committed to consumer health and safe, and to the safety of our workforce and the environment. We do not test finished products on animals unless demanded past the regulatory authorities in the few countries where this is the law. In such cases, we try to convince the local authorities to change the police force. Where some testing of ingredients is required by law or currently unavoidable, we aim to minimise the number of animals used.

In pursuit of these goals, Unilever on the one hand applies strict internal control procedures to ensure that animal testing is only carried out when no alternatives are available and, on the other hand, invests in developing and applying culling approaches to supercede animal testing in safety assessments for consumer products.

Unilever does non undertake animal testing, or commission others to do testing on its behalf, unless information technology is necessary to run into its wellness, prophylactic and environmental obligations or it is demanded past government regulators or other official bodies.

When developing these products, for ethical reasons it is not always possible to carry out tests direct on humans. Therefore, novel ingredients may take to be tested on animals first. Animal studies may need to be performed to establish the mechanism of action underpinning the health benefits of these ingredients as well as to assess their safety.

For their full statement on beast testing please click here; http://world wide web.unilever.com/sustainable-living-2014/our-approach-to-sustainability/responding-to-stakeholder-concerns/developing-alternative-approaches-to-creature-testing/

Unilever state that they test on animals when required past law, again so they can sell their products in countries such as China just they too state they test their ingredients on animal reasons when it'south a 'novel' ingredient. I haven't put their full argument here equally it is very long, so I encourage readers to look at their website as cited.

Unilever has also been reported on for doing extreme, roughshod and unnecessary tests on animals for their benefit. Though they say they desire to minimize animal testing, Unilever has come up numerous times in my enquiry as one of the worse brands out there for testing on animals and for not keeping suffering to a minimal.

The combination of them letting their products be tested to permit them college profits, the fact that they land they test new products on animals and the other sources that state the cruelty they inflict on animals means I absolutely reject to touch a unmarried thing made by them and will never buy anything from the brands they own.

Unilever is, amoung others, known to be one of the worse companies for animal testing, and because they ain so many brands and sell and so many products, thousands of products in fact are released every twelvemonth, the amount of products tested on animals in extreme and cruel means is simply staggering.

Unilever owns Bovil, I can't believe its not Butter, Marmite, Pot Noodle, Lynx, Walls, Comfort, Pigeon, Elmlea, Vaseline, Brylcreem, Impulse, Persil, Brut, Ben and Jerrys, HB, Timotei, Cornetto, Peperami, Simple, Magnum, Lipton, Domestos,Viennetta, Tresemme, PG Tips, Colmans, Cif, Stork, Knorr, Solero, Sure, Carte D'Or, Surf, St Ives, V05, Lyons, Ponds, Maille, Slim.Fast, Radox, Bertolli, Flora and Hellmans.

http://www.nestle.com/aboutus/ask-nestle/answers/do-you-test-your-products-on-animals

Animal testing, in my opinion is not at all necessary for nutrient, cosmetics, toiletries or household and Nestle state they practice test on animals for more than than just selling their products in China. To me, this makes them 1 of the worse brands out in that location. Not only that, along with Unilever they are one of the companies that regularly gets reported on for doing unnecessary tests on animals which are roughshod and cause farthermost suffering. I will never buying anything from Nestle or the brands they own.

Added to this, Nestles smaller visitor L'Oreal is known to be one of the worst for animal testing, I'll be posting about 50'Oreal and all things wrong with it in a few weeks and then please go along an eye out for that, only know that any of the companies they own or products they make are tested on animals.

Procter-Gamble-is-strengthening-is-international-presence-1

Proctor and Gamble

Proctor and Gamble Argument

At Procter & Gamble we believe the elimination of creature testing is the correct thing to do. P&G does non test its products or ingredients on animals anywhere in the world, unless required by law. Nosotros will continue to develop non-creature culling tests and work with regulators around the world to ultimately end testing involving animals. We have adult over l alternative, not-animal testing methods and invested more $370 million in finding alternatives. We work with leading contained and industry experts in the field of alternatives research, and nosotros partner with leading animal protection groups, such every bit the Humane Society of the US, to promote alternative research methods and regulatory acceptance of alternatives.

For further information about their efforts with brute testing go to http://www.pg.com/en_US/sustainability/policies_practices/animal_welfare.shtml

From this we can see that Proctor and Gamble allows testing on animals to sell their products in Mainland china and other such countries which has different laws about fauna testing. For me, I don't desire to support a visitor that allows animate being suffering merely for profits so I will not be buying anything from Proctor and Gamble or their brands.

Iams is too well known to test on animals as well and these animals suffer extremely vicious conditions.

johnson-and-johnson

Johnson and Johnson

Johnson and Johnsons Statement;

At Johnson & Johnson, it is our policy is to minimize the use of animals in laboratory research when assessing the safety and efficacy of our products. Since 2000, the utilise of animals in our enquiry has decreased over 60 percent, relative to R&D investment.

Notwithstanding, the use of animals in the development of our products is sometimes required to ensure products are rubber and effective. In fact, alternatives to animal testing techniques, usually called in vitro techniques, do not generate all of the pre-clinical data required by regime agencies to bring new products to market. Therefore, health intendance companies must combine in vitro tests with animal (in vivo) research to fulfill our scientific, legal and upstanding obligations to provide safe and constructive products.

Animals are but used for clinical didactics and training purposes when bodily participation by the trainee is required to learn a medical or surgical process (including proper product usage) where alternative models have been deemed inadequate for the purpose. Thus, at times, information technology becomes necessary for our businesses to employ animals for teaching or demonstration. This is peculiarly truthful for certain products from our medical devices businesses, as proper training of the health professionals who will use them is critical to patient safety and the currently available non-animal methods for training do not meet the necessarily high standards to ensure condom and proper apply of these products. We continuously strive to review grooming requirements to determine if additional reductions in animal use can be institute.

For our personal care products, we practise not deport brute testing or enquire others to test on our behalf, except when required past law, and we comply with requirements of the European Matrimony (EU) ban on animal testing for cosmetics.

When animal testing is necessary, it is our policy to utilise animals from canonical sources merely, preferably purpose-bred animals which are born and raised under controlled weather and specifically for testing.  In certain geographic regions of the world, purpose-bred animals are not available and, in these cases, animals must be obtained through regulated dealers that meet our criteria for the humane care and use of laboratory research animals.

For their full statement please go to; http://www.jnj.com/caring/citizenship-sustainability/strategic-framework/animal-testing

Information technology appears from this argument that Johnson and Johnson utilize animal testing extensively in their testing of products as well every bit allowing further animal testing and so their products tin be sold in countries such as Mainland china. Johnson and Johnson do ain a number of medical brands and utilize brute testing for medical inquiry as well as toiletries so some of their animal testing would go towards the medicines they produce as well as their other products.

Obviously some of their below brands are more than difficult to avert than other companies, such equally the prescriptions, however I will non be buying their brands because they let their not-medical products to be tested on animals and so they tin be sold in other countries. Whilst I will not comment on their fauna testing for medical reasons, I disagree with their testing for bigger profits (selling in countries with unlike laws), so I will not buy their products and will attempt to utilize different medicine than what they produce purely for the corrective testing equally I exercise not want to support them in any way.

Brands that Johnson and Johnson also are Johnsons, Babe.com, Destin, Natusan, Babycenter.com, Penaten, Prim'age, Bebe, Clean & Clear, Roc, Vendome, Neutrogena, skin ID, Rogaine, Aveeno, Lubriderm, Piz Buin, Band-aid, Bengay, Savlon, Neosporin, Cortaid, Daktarin, Compeed, Tucks, Listerine, Rembrandt, Tylenol, Sudafed, Pepcid, Nicorette, Motrin, Imodium, Dolormin, Benadryl, Mylanta, Zyrtec, Splenda, Benecol, Lactaid, Visine and Acuvue.

mondelez-international

Mondelez International (Previously known as Kraft)

I couldn't find an official statement from Mondelez themselves, however I did find this on the below website;

In November 2014 Ethical Consumer viewed Mondelez International's completed questionnaire. In response to a question on animal testing the visitor stated: "We assure the safety and nutritional benefits of our ingredients, additives and products through a variety of research methods. We do not perform brute testing for the vast majority of our products. Wherever possible, nosotros avoid animal testing. In some limited cases, there are no practical alternatives to animate being testing, and we employ exterior facilities to do the testing. We piece of work merely with facilities that meet or exceed adept laboratory practices and comply with all applicable laws and regulations on the use of animals in inquiry. We are committed to reducing the demand for beast testing while maintaining our strict quality and rubber standards."

http://www.ethicalconsumer.org/companystories.aspx?CompanyId=57922&CategoryId=207

Mondelez state in this that they use animal testing for their products, nonetheless they do not state what they utilize it for; authorities laws, product testing or inquiry, and though they state they use facilities that accept 'good laboratory practices', in reality in that location is no way to perform animate being testing without inflicting suffering on the animals. Looking at the brands they own, I see no need for animal testing to occur, and considering the terrible and invasive tests that other nutrient companies accept washed, it concerns me that they use animal testing for their products when I feel for what they are doing information technology is completely unnecessary. The fact that they do not have a policy, or at to the lowest degree an hands plant policy, on animal testing but in that location is this statement from them from merely a couple of months ago  which is and then vague on what they do and why means that I volition be regarding their testing on the same level equally other companies that test their products. I will not be buying any of their products or their sub-brands (though it might pain me to give up my dearest Oreos!).

Mondelez International own Kraft products equally well equally Alpen Gold, Barni, belVita, Bournvita, Bubbaloo, Cadbury (and all Cadbury sub-brands), Fries Ahoy!, Clight, Social club Social, Cote d'Or, Dentyne, Dirol, Freia, Gevalia, 1000 Mere, Halls, Hollywood, Honey Maid, Jacobs, Kenco, Lacta, LU, Marabou, Mikado, Milka, Nabisco, Newtons, Nilla, Nutter Butter, Philadelphia, Oreo, Premium, Prince, Ritz, Royal, Sottilette, Sour Patch Kids, Stimorol, Stride, Tang, Tassimo, Tiger, Toblerone, Trakinas, Trident, Triscuit, Tuc and Wheat Thins.

Coca Cola

Coca-Cola Statement

The Coca‑Cola Company does not conduct any animal tests and nosotros practise non directly fund any creature testing of our drinks. Where government agencies require creature tests to demonstrate ingredient condom, we rely on tertiary-party testing. We have shared our concern regarding the upstanding and humane treatment of animals with our suppliers and others in the industry. We encourage the apply of alternative testing methods whenever and wherever possible and have financially supported enquiry to develop these culling methods.

This argument shows once once again that companies are willing to utilise animal testing if it means higher profits; Coca-Cola use animal testing to prove their products are prophylactic for human consumption though many of their products accept been on the market for years.

I have too found through my inquiry on Coca-Cola that they have performed some highly questionable and extremely invasive tests to prove their product are rubber. These tests were non required past law and were invasive, painful procedures which were deadly only to examination the sense of taste of products. I think this is completely unnecessary and cruel, however they take at present stopped these tests, though they still adhere to their above policy for government testing in other countries.

I strongly disagree with the cruel tests they previously did, and the fact that they allow animal testing on their products just to sell them in other countries to get more than profits means I don't want to back up them equally a company. This will be a hard ane as Coca-Cola is everywhere and is more often than not an piece of cake selection to make when out but I volition be endeavoring to stop ownership from them and if I am dying for a cold coke, to simply accept own brand products.

PepsiCo

PepsiCo Argument

PepsiCo does not behave any animate being tests and does non directly fund whatever animal tests on its beverages and foods. Where governmental agencies require animal tests to demonstrate ingredient condom, companies using those ingredients rely on third party testing.

PepsiCo has shared our concern regarding the ethical and humane treatment of animals with our suppliers and others in the manufacture. We encourage the utilize of culling testing methods whenever and wherever possible and have financially supported enquiry to develop these alternative methods.

As with well-nigh of the other companies out there, PepsiCo allows their products to be tested on animals then they can be sold in more places. They also appear to have funded a number of projects for which the purpose is unclear. Again, I will not be buying PepsiCo products as they allow animal testing on their products and so they can be sold in countries such as Cathay.

PepsiCo as well own Walkers, Doritos, Quaker Oats, Scotts Porridge Oats, Tropicana, Pepsi, 7Up, Gatorade, Copella, Sobe 5 Water, Snack a Jacks, Mountain Dew, Naked Juice and Nobbys Basics.

General Mills

General Mills Argument on Animate being Testing

Information technology has long been General Mills' policy to restrict and/or minimize the testing of food products and nutrient ingredients on animals other than humans. As a consequence, the vast majority of our products practise not incorporate testing of whatsoever kind on animals, other than humans, and we practise not comport research on animals, other than humans, in company laboratories.

To see their full statement, including animal welfare in regards to pork, milk, eggs and antibiotics please go to the beneath website:

I couldn't find any websites stating that General Mills do employ animal testing, nor could I find whatsoever campaigns against them and so I assume that the argument they say here is right and the utilise little or no animal testing for their products.

This means (there is ane of the big ones that don't test yay!) that I will go on to utilize General Mills products unless new prove comes to calorie-free or unless the production goes against any of my other standpoints i.e. use of palm oil.

Danone, Yakult, Unilever and Nestle

The below article from the BUAV applies to Danone, Yakult, Unilever and Nestle, and for me is bear witness enough never to buy their products. The experiments these animals were subjected to were savage, unnecessary and completely incorrect every bit I believe the serve no real purpose and inflicted incredible amounts of pain on the animals before they were killed and dissected, for food products! Because of this article alone I wouldn't purchase from these brands but combining it with the other enquiry I've washed only appalls me at what companies do to defenseless animals for reasons that just make no sense.

http://www.buav.org/article/1292/buav-condemns-vicious-animal-experiments-by-major-food-companies-to-prove-%E2%fourscore%98health-benefits%E2%80%99

I know that for many people, boycotting these companies would be very hard, along with the corrective companies I am also avoiding (Please see my earlier post on the truth of cosmetics) and already information technology is putting limitations on my diet and making me remember twice most whatever product I buy, merely I recollect it is a good thing. The limitations on food and drinkable volition be skillful for my diet and should help me to become healthier, but more importantly than that it ways I wont be supporting companies that either do or allow animate being testing on their products which for me is the nearly important thing. I pass up to support a company that inflicts in any mode beast suffering, and knowing the pain these animals go through…I call up I tin can skip a couple of biscuits!

If you retrieve I am incorrect on whatsoever of these, or that the data is out of appointment delight do get in touch! I'd love to see other sources of data to add together to this.
